I read that but did not see anything about adding Microsoft Live to my
file open dialog. I know I have what is needed on my system because
Word shows it when it gives me the file open dialog.

??? - thanks - dave

Hi Dave,

I have Office 2007 installed on my Windows XP machine, but there's no
"Microsoft Live" option on the sidebar of the file open dialog. Which path
does this folder point to? Do you expect all of your users have this
directory on their machines?

I think you need to install the Office Live client first. Mine looks
like Loading Image... after I
installed it.

Hi Dave,

I try install the Office Live client, and now have the "Microsoft Office
Live" option on the side bar. However, the open file dialog in the Word
and the OpenFileDialog in .NET are not the same.

The open file dialog in the Office Word 2007 uses a window whose class name
is "bosa_sdm_Microsoft Office Word 12.0", it uses a window whose class name
is "Internet Explorer_Server" to explore the directories. While the .NET
OpenFileDialog is a wrapper of the Win32 open file dialog, it's window
class name is "#32770 (Dialog)", and it uses a window whose class name is
"SysListView32" to explore the directories. You can see these differences
by the Spy++ tool.

The "Microsoft Office Live" option links to a web page, but the
"SysListView32" window cannot display a web page, so even we can manage to
add the "Microsoft Office Live" option on the sidebar, the content of the
page cannot be displayed.

So, a quick solution would be to create a Form with a WebBrowser on it,
navigate the WebBrowser to the Microsoft Office Live link location.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Zhi-Xin Ye

Hi Dave,

The Office reinvents the open file dialog, it does not use the standard
Win32 dialog class. It also uses its own logic to change the display of the
Office Workshop page in the browser, you can find this difference between
the display style of the browser on the Office open file dialog and the IE.
You can use a WebBrowser control to display the content of the "Microsoft
Office Live" page, however, if you need the exact display style that
displays in the Office open file dialog browser, you can ask for help in
the Office forums.

If you have any questions or concern, please feel free to let me know, I
will be happy to be of assistance.

Ha, you seem honestly surprised that proprietary Microsoft products do
things that go above and beyond the functionality that MS gives you in
programming tools/APIs/frameworks. Are you that new at this? I mean
ESPECIALLY when we're talking about Office! They're their own little MS
island....
